Chevrolet Equinox Review

No, Im not kidding. The past four years of the Chevy Equinox couldnt have been blander (quick..can you really picture one?). It was dead on arrival and buried by every new small SUV or crossover that came along since.
But this....if theyd had 535 of these to put in the Capitol parking lot a year ago, Congress would have passed a GM bailout bill so fast it would have made your head swim. There would have been no bankruptcy.
Yes...its that good. So good, in fact, that Id cross-shop it against the Mazda CX-7. And if youve read that review, you know thats saying something.
Pick the Chevy over the Mazda and you give up the sporting feel, but you gain room and a more commanding view of the road, thanks to the more traditional architecture of the Equinox.
Base price? $23,360...with most of the same standard equipment as the Mazda. The rest (apart from a sunroof) is made up for in options that, on our tester, only ran the bottom line up to $24,600. And heres what you get to sit in:

Not two years ago, I would have bet you that GM couldnt pull off an interior like that in this class and price of vehicle. Then, Id have won.
And speaking of winning, the Equinox actually takes the CX-7 on fuel economy...thanks to a six-speed automatic paired with a just-right four....the EPA says 22 city/30 highway.
This is a vehicle that deserves your attention and consideration. And the new GM needs to make everything they do from here on out as good as this.
UPDATE: Just finished a week in the top-of-the-line LTZ model. Base price jumps to $28,045, but with so much standard equipment (power liftgate, 17" aluminum wheels, rearview camera embedded in the mirror, leather, automatic climate control, a Pioneer premium audio system) that GM was able to ship this one to us option-free. So with destination charges, the tab ends up at $28,790....$4,190 more than the lightly equipped base model above.
And the EPA has revised its estimates upward...its now 22 city/32 highway. In my mix of city street and freeway driving, I saw 25.

New Car Review Lexus GX460

15 years as a professional TireKicker (automotive journalist) and there are still things to learn.
When I got the Lexus GX460 for a week, I thought it was a spectacularly dumb design for one thing...the tailgate. The window would open upward, but the whole assembly didnt swing up and the gate below the window wouldnt swing down. Drove me nuts. Why would Lexus build a $60,000 SUV and make you load the cargo compartment from the rear seat?
A few hours later, my teenage son walked up to the GX for the first time, and opened the door out to the side.
Duh.
I could cut myself some slack and say its an unusual, if not unique design for a rear door on a big SUV, but for many years I owned a Suburban with barn doors, so I really have no excuse.
Why am I telling you this? Because its the only thing I could find wrong with the GX460...and it wasnt.

Oh, on some level I could argue that its too big, too heavy, too thirsty....but big and heavy are as big and heavy do and the GX460 doesnt drive big and heavy. Its nowhere near as ponderous as a Nissan Armada or Infiniti QX56. Thirsty I could probably make stick. The EPA says 15 city, 20 highway, and cracking 17 in a mix of the two was a chore.
But as with most vehicles with the big stylized "L" on the grille, its about what you get for your money...and for the base price of $58,240, the GX is very well equipped.
Its certainly not wanting for power, with a 301 horsepower 4.6 liter V8, the 6-speed automatic makes the fuel economy as good (relatively) as it is (cmon, 8-speed), it is more than capable off road and in bad weather, with full-time four-wheel drive and a Torsen limited-slip center differential, and its civilized on pavement thanks to a kinetic dynamic suspension system.

And then there are the niceties. Every safety technology known to man. 10-way power heated/ventilated front seats, wood interior trim, memory for the seats, steering wheel and mirrors, a reclining, sliding 60/40 second-row seat and a power fold-flat 50/50 third row seat. Theres a moonroof, a nine-speaker audio system, with 6-disc CD changer, USB, Bluetooth and satellite radio, privacy glass and as David Bowie once said, "leather, leather, everywhere."
But wait...theres more, if youre willing to pay for it. The options on our tester included a nav system with upgraded Mark Levinson audio system including 17-speaker 7.1 surround with audio and video ($3,930), Intuitive Parking Assist ($500) and wide-view front and side monitor, pre-collision system with driver attention monitor, dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert, intelligent high beam headlamps and crawl control ($3,170). Oh, and $64 for a cargo net.
With $895 destination, it came to $66,799.
Cheap? Hardly.
Overpriced? Um....no. Not when you look at the competition and the level of equipment and capability. And the back door opens!

2011 Chrysler 300 Review

The 2011 Chrysler 300. |
This is the second 2011 Chrysler 300 the press fleet folks have sent our way in the past few months. I wrote about the first one for High Gear Medias Carnewser.com a couple of weeks back. That first car came option-free...sporting a price tag $7590 less than the 2011 Dodge Charger reviewed here on TireKicker in late September.
The Carnewser.com piece focused on my trying (and failing) to understand why Chrysler, working to set itself apart as an upscale brand would build and sell such reasonably priced examples of their flagship, the 300.
Since then, though, word has come that Chryslers dropping the ax on the Dodge Grand Caravan. Come 2013, theyll only be selling the Chrysler Town and Country, setting off speculation that once Fiats, Alfa Romeos and Lancia-sourced Chryslers begin appearing in showrooms, the product mix between those brands, Dodge and Jeep may be very different from what we see now.
So lets assume a plan is in the works and assess the 300 on its own merits, absent percieved price crowding with its cousin, the Dodge Charger.

The 2011 Chrysler 300 rear view. |
First of all, even in base form. the 2011 Chrysler 300 is drop-dead gorgeous. Its a completely different design from the last generation, relying on subtle cues to tie the two together. The details are superb and the effect sets the 300 apart as the only big American sedan of its kind.
The new Chrysler Pentastar V6 is a revelation...strong, smooth and economical. Even with a five-speed automatic (an 8-speed is on tap for 2012), the EPA says 18 city, 27 highway, and we saw a rock-steady 20 miles per gallon in a week of nothing but city streets.
![]() |
The 2011 Chrysler 300 interior. |
Like example number one, this 300 was the base model, with a base price of $27,170. Unlike the first car, this one had options...but just two. $295 for Deep Cherry Red Crystal Pearl Coat exterior paint, and another $295 for Customer Preferred Package 27E...Chryslers Uconnect voice command with Bluetooth.
Fold that in with the standard equipment (4-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, stability and traction control, brake assist, hill start assist, all the airbags a car can hold, power locks, keyless entry and pushbutton start, 8-way power drivers seat, tilt and telescoping steering wheel, an AM/FM/Sirius/CD/mp3 audio system with 6 speakers and USB and auxilary connections, and dual-zone climate control and while you dont have the pinnacle in luxury, you do have a remarkably equipped, very quiet, comfortable and reasonably quick big sedan for $28,585 with destination charges.
Ive decided to stop worrying about why Chrysler offers this car for so little money. There are people who will be very glad they do.
2011 Chrysler 300
Base price: $27,170.
As tested: $28,585.
Likes: Room, quiet, fuel economy for its class.
Dislikes: Pairing and connecting phones with the Bluetooth system is a lengthy, hit-and-miss proposition.
EPA estimate: 18 mpg city/27 mpg highway.

Rolls Royce Phantom 2010 Review Stems From A Prestigious Line Of Cars

Rolls-Royce Phantom 2010 Review - Many improvements have certainly earned the position of BMW bought Rolls-Royce, which involve the transfer of operations in Surrey, this plant develops a new brand of the manufacturer and it is true, the selection of a brand new car, which often tends to be the ghost was the first in particular. While parts of the driveline real and what building is that it comes from his father in Bavaria, often the ghost, like its predecessors, it suffers much more complete than a device to measure each one designed to be able to to specific customer needs.
The panels 2010 Rolls-Royce Phantom is considered to be operated only by also a 6.75-liter V12 engine. Together with 453 horsepower and 531 lb-ft of torque, speed is simply without any effort. In fact, even at highway speeds just near 70 km / h, according to the engineers RR, the car still offers much more than 70 percent of power in reserve, a little more than sufficient to ensure that you simply can not phantom driver ever need to enter the sweat. Specific Transmission ZF is a very elegant movement - COG exchange is really barely detectable most actual period and optimum torque will be included in the bottom pretty good (lb-ft 431 is certainly available for only 1000 rpm min) There is absolutely no requirement for any form of hunting with special tools.Generally, the interior is actually just a lesson in the quality of personal vehicles, like Rolls-Royce has always been to yet. Wide Wilton carpet, saw the ground special acres of solid Mahogany Flare (one of six hand-selected veneers simply by specialists) and James Bond design as an analog clock on the central part of the special touches special the fact that displays a screen suspicion typical really, really a button and also a cooler hidden mushrooms. when the actual return to seats.Upward is also a true case of crafts in the old meets new technologies. Typical wheel apart from being complete and timely way, housing an air bag comes with a very old world feel of it no doubt helped by simple rim generally very thin.

2010 Chevrolet Malibu 2LT Review Better Than Anything From The Japanese Midsize Rivalry

2010 Chevrolet Malibu 2LT Review - From the fit and finish for the realization of riding and powertrain, the Chevrolet is definitely on an equal or better than any of the average Japanese rivalry, and are also excellent Ford Fusion. The Malibu is extremely strong, calm, stable and harmonious, easy car to love and enjoy driving. There is obviously no car racing, so that the specifications are different, and for years the standard in this section has been placed by Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. It describes what a vehicle to be an American medium.
From the outside, the style is clean and fresh, with openings in the door wide for easy entry. Inside, the upholstery with suede inserts to give a feeling of great class, and soft-touch materials on the dashboard and doors. The interior also seems quite high, even with a full passenger load. Take soft and pleasant, and shows amazing poise for a family sedan. Finally, the four-cylinder powertrain is nothing to talk about in. He is 6-speed automatic Super smooth and allows the engine to run at just 2,000 rpm at 70 mph.The greatest bane of GMs Malibu is now involved with Honda and Toyota in the world, at least in this segment, the rivalry is true of Hyundai South Korean automaker. The new Sonata hits it and everything else away in almost all classes, in addition to the completion of engine can be.
Nissan Versa 2010 Review Simple And Sensible Small Car

Nissan Versa 2010 Review - If you are looking for a small sedan with a relatively cheap price, the Nissan Versa used as a choice. With costs at around $ 10,000 you get a comfortable car for everyday use. This car is not a luxury and sports, do not expect to get from this car. The attraction of this car is the ride comfort in the city not to waste too much money.
Nissan Versa wrapped inside a soft material, five comfortable seats and cargo area large enough to store things. An advantage of the Nissan Versa is a big space in the back row. This is often a problem for the buyer, but the Nissan Versa is moved to the front. The rest is a standard that the other cars. But the safety features of this car is very good. And he has more of the insurance industry. For smaller cars, Nissan Versa fast enough. In its basic version of the engine has been adopted 1.6-liter four-cylinder that produces 107-hp. Considering that more than offset the Versa offers 1.8-liter 4-cylinder that produces 122-hp. This car can travel 00-60 km / h in 9.1 seconds and a top speed of 113 mph. Overall, the 2010 Nissan Versa is quite satisfactory. By issuing money is not much, you get a small sedan, which is quite nice.
2011 Infiniti M35h Hybrid Review And Picture

2011 Infiniti M35h Hybrid Review And Picture - Infiniti has released its 32-mpg M35h in to the luxurious hybrid-sedan section, an area of interest only somewhat greater compared to market place for vehicles with square wheels. Which has a base price tag of $54,575, the 2011 Infiniti M35h is a minimum of somewhat more affordable compared to Roller and also the Lexus. At its value, the 2011 Infiniti M35h is not likely to promote like hotcakes. Some well-heeled customers thinking about engineering and speaking about getting green will consider house this wonder widget of superior technological innovation, and their neighbors will probably in no way discover.
The 2011 Infiniti M35h’s headline technological innovation, the Infiniti Direct Response Hybrid system, is primarily present in its JATCO-supplied 7-speed automatic. It’s two clutch sets: a dry one involving the engine and electrical motor plus a wet pack aft in the transmission. Just like the engines powering most other hybrids, the 302-hp, 3.5-liter V-6 within the M makes use of Atkinson-cycle valve timing. As with Nissan’s electrical Leaf, the 2011 Infiniti M35h’s lithium-ion battery pack makes use of the company’s proprietary laminated-cell configuration, meaning the cells are rectangular sheets rather than cylinders.
In spite of all of the whiz-bangery heading on below the skin, the 2011 Infiniti M35h seems similar towards the Infiniti M37, other than for its rump badge. Even the wheels will be the exact same. It is a risky maneuver by Infiniti, taking into consideration that a lot of hybrid clients love to promote their greenness, however the organization says customers on this class want to be a lot more subtle.

Dodge Dakota 2010 Review more Crew Cab seat Crate N Go Storage

Actual Dodge Dakota is available after either Extended Cab or Crew Cab body styles all. more cabin types are available in ST and in addition enormous frames Horn (usually a big horn cut, simply called the Lone Star Texas real trim). Dakota ST Crew Cab to provide a real and even large Horn / Lone Star rims, but one should be very strict TRX4 and as a result of pieces Laramie. In general, specialty, and therefore supports the most features Dakota size and therefore its functionality. For 3.7 liter V6 Magnum is simply the normal of each 2010 Dodge Dakota, produces 210 hp and torque to 235 pounds-feet. This is a great V6 is estimated that the 4-speed automatic transmission. ST, Laramie and also enormous Horn / Lone Star are three variants of compensation for these cabins. 4X4 Special types come with the genuine agreement of the road. Several referring to many, but overall the basic TRX4 is very, very 4.7 liter V8 that makes 302-HP and 329 lb-ft of torque. The V8 engine is mated to the 5-speed automatic transmission really. RWD is probably the most common in the Dakota, with four-wheel drive are different (usually referring to the real TRX4). 2010 Dodge Dakota is available that comes with more features to increase ease of assembly and increased accordingly seems. These features of the front suspension also remain impartial and the axis of the rear suspension. The actual Dakota proved amazingly sharp through our lane-change exercise, but its braking operation leaves that a lot to be able to choose to be wanted. Typically the prior year’s suspension delivered truly a hard vehicle and consequently the actual steering had for a numb and so lifeless sense, while within off-road situations, the particular Dakota soldiered referring to unabated.
In particular, in 2010 Dodge Dakota truck really is as a medium is really just to be obtained or made simply of the cabin crew all body styles, each of them is the size of a single bed. In general, the latest edition seems contrary to the precursor including rounded corners. The presence of such external Dodge Dakota is really attractive, comes with sharp edges and whether the ornaments of style. Nice seems that is the real chrome grille with monochromatic or can be finished. Inside, a vision of the interior components and I am budget range. Interior wearing special hard plastic just seems very difficult, however, the black dash in particular refer to the white design that can do it easily can understand. Many internal components are not so similar to some characteristic index of other cars in the particular department, but the cabin is especially large in fact very quiet in the streets, other than to other small trucks. The effective against ordinary seats are incredibly more comfortable, while typically achievable power seats give this wealth of configuration options. Headroom and legs following is sufficient for people aged less than six feet, but users would probably prefer more legroom a little more. It is considered sufficient in the area of storage security tend to be typical large compartment and useful. Special Crew Cab "Crate N Go system of storage behind the seat is really a most sought after and also consists of two foldable plastic crates to hide under the floor during special special rear seat back-up seats.Flip generate funds for things that expose integrated and thus removable cargo companies. Overall quality material would most likely be pretty good with the heart and will therefore help to create their own thought into this section an excellent competitive car.
2011 Cadillac STS Review
Cadillacs upcoming XTS sedan will not only replace the DTS, but the STS as well. Whats an STS? Cant blame you...this is another strong sedan thats been neglected in the marketing department and overshadowed by its smaller (and brilliant) sibling, the CTS.
And thats a shame, too....because while the STS never really got to be the BMW 5-Series killer many had hoped it would be, its a terrific sedan.
Consider the specs: Available in rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive...a 3.6-liter V6 engine making 302 horsepower and 272 pounds per foot of torque with a six-speed automatic transmission standard...and an EPA mileage rating of 18 city/27 highway.
But, unlike its big brother DTS, you have to dig a bit to find a big discount over the 5-Series. The entry level 5 (the 528i) starts at $45,050...the lowest-rung STS is $47,280. But the STS has 60 more horsepower. Move to erase that deficit, and youre looking at the 300-horsepower (2 less than the Cad) 535i, and the price tag for that Bimmer is $50,100.
The XTS promises to be quite a car, and, frankly, more of a replacement for the STS than the DTS. The time has come for change. But GMs neglect of upgrades and marketing for the STS deprived a lot of people from discovering this car in its prime...and its dealers of thousands of sales to what would have been satisfied customers.
Renault Megane Renault Sport 250 Cup Review 2010 A Conscious Expression Of Enthusiastic Endeavor

Renault Megane typically is certainly very helpful, as are three doors, which is generally optimistic about Renault coupe really support. Real hatchback genes are obvious in appearance this incredible machine, but fails within the company wants to athletic activities, while retaining much of its typical five-door brother. Of course, if that car is certainly a beautiful style and even if the conjecture.
Actual turbo, intercooled, 1,998 cc inline-4 F4Rt engine is almost certainly right, a development of the existing plant of the current stunning R26.R. limited edition The specific use of real, a valve timing and twin-scroll turbo so, the variable cam supporting extension of the actual consumption power curve typical, and if it can make 251 pounds-feet of torque 3000 rpm and 80 per cent of maximum torque is only really get to 1900 rpm. Peak output is actually 247 hp at only 5500 rpm and thus forged pistons and connecting rods are also rising, the typical strain. The gearbox special six-speed manual gives a positive development if a little slow moving.

Right out the gate, the Camaro can be powered with anything from a six cylinder to a large block of 396, but the buying public took a while to warm up the notion that a pony car can also be fast. Most F-bodies were ordered with a small-block 327 or 350 new, which easily held off Ford 289, and made excellent foundation for street performance. The mid-year introduction of 302-powered Z/28 reached an almost ideal combination of power and weight to the overall performance, and immediately began tearing the SCCA Trans Am circuit.
For die-hard horsepower enthusiasts, word traveled quickly that the Camaro had a terror straight into circulation. Big-block Camaro immediately began driving legends like Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins to victories in Super Stock drag strips across the country, and pilots of the weekend followed their lead. Recognizing an untapped market performance, as Dana Chevrolet dealer, Yenko Nickey and soon created some legends of their own, sliding under 427 engines Rat Camaro hoods before sending them out the door.
