Wheres Hitman And His Car Updated 12 36 PM MST

The ChallengerTalk Forums have been on a rollercoaster ride the past week: Outrage over a member named "Hitman" being denied the keys to a 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT-8 after a $29,100 winning bid on eBay was disputed by Southern California dealer Glenn E. Thomas Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep....support for "Hitman" when it was announced that he and the dealer were going to sit down face to face last Friday after eBay announced there was no technical glitch, as the dealer had claimed.....and celebration when, just after 7:00 AM PST Sunday morning, "Hitman" posted the news that the dealership "honored the $29.1K auction", along with a photo that showed a key with a Glenn E. Thomas fob atop a Challenger brochure and a handwritten note reading "YES!"

One more post, three hours later...saying he was going to take it easy, read the owners manual...and since then...silence. At least from "Hitman".  No more posts, no more photos.

From members of the forums? Well, a growing number of posters are questioning whether things are as they seem.  They dont really know "Hitman" (hed only made two posts on the forum prior to starting the thread about his having won the auction on March 13).

An examination of the bidding record for the auction raises some questions, too. 15 bids were made for the SRT-8, by only 5 bidders.

March 12, a single bidder made 10 bids, ranging from $22,000 to $29,000, with no competing bids in between, in a four and a half hour period. These appear to be automatic bids.

And then comes "Hitman" (or so were told, since eBay keeps actual bidder IDs confidential by assigning an anonymous bidder name)...who makes his one and only bid of $29,100.

But unless theres a glitch with eBay time stamps, thats weird, too...because the $29,100 bid is shown as having been made at 08:54:13 PST...and the 10-bid streak described above didnt start until 11:00:25 PST...more than two hours later. Which means "Hitman" chose $29,100 as his bid when the standing high bid was $20,100.

A last-moment hail-mary to shut out the competition? Maybe. Except "Hitman"s winning bid was more than five hours before the auction closed. And eBay says automatic bidders maximum bids are kept confidential from other bidders.

Open up "Hitman"s bidding history and youll find hes no power bidder. Hes been involved in exactly four eBay auctions...and the Challenger SRT-8 is the only one where he had the winning bid.

Hey, it could be that "Hitman" is just out enjoying the SRT-8...but his friends in the Challenger community are beginning to wonder if theyve been had.

New Car Review Lexus GX460

front 3/4 view of 2013 Lexus GX460

15 years as a professional TireKicker (automotive journalist) and there are still things to learn.

When I got the Lexus GX460 for a week, I thought it was a spectacularly dumb design for one thing...the tailgate. The window would open upward, but the whole assembly didnt swing up and the gate below the window wouldnt swing down. Drove me nuts. Why would Lexus build a $60,000 SUV and make you load the cargo compartment from the rear seat?

A few hours later, my teenage son walked up to the GX for the first time, and opened the door out to the side.

Duh.

I could cut myself some slack and say its an unusual, if not unique design for a rear door on a big SUV, but for many years I owned a Suburban with barn doors, so I really have no excuse.

Why am I telling you this? Because its the only thing I could find wrong with the GX460...and it wasnt.

Rear 3/4 view of 2013 Lexus GX460

Oh, on some level I could argue that its too big, too heavy, too thirsty....but big and heavy are as big and heavy do and the GX460 doesnt drive big and heavy. Its nowhere near as ponderous as a Nissan Armada or Infiniti QX56. Thirsty I could probably make stick. The EPA says 15 city, 20 highway, and cracking 17 in a mix of the two was a chore.

But as with most vehicles with the big stylized "L" on the grille, its about what you get for your money...and for the base price of $58,240, the GX is very well equipped.

Its certainly not wanting for power, with a 301 horsepower 4.6 liter V8, the 6-speed automatic makes the fuel economy as good (relatively) as it is (cmon, 8-speed), it is more than capable off road and in bad weather, with full-time four-wheel drive and a Torsen limited-slip center differential, and its civilized on pavement thanks to a kinetic dynamic suspension system.

interior view of 2013 Lexus GX460

And then there are the niceties. Every safety technology known to man. 10-way power heated/ventilated front seats, wood interior trim, memory for the seats, steering wheel and mirrors, a reclining, sliding 60/40 second-row seat and a power fold-flat 50/50 third row seat. Theres a moonroof, a nine-speaker audio system, with 6-disc CD changer, USB, Bluetooth and satellite radio, privacy glass and as David Bowie once said, "leather, leather, everywhere."

But wait...theres more, if youre willing to pay for it. The options on our tester included a nav system with upgraded Mark Levinson audio system including 17-speaker 7.1 surround with audio and video ($3,930), Intuitive Parking Assist ($500) and wide-view front and side monitor, pre-collision system with driver attention monitor, dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert, intelligent high beam headlamps and crawl control ($3,170). Oh, and $64 for a cargo net.

With $895 destination, it came to $66,799.

Cheap? Hardly.

Overpriced? Um....no. Not when you look at the competition and the level of equipment and capability. And the back door opens!

Preparing the car for the winter

Soon will come the coldest time of year - winter. Respectively, and motorists difficulties begin. In this article I will try best to describe in detail the possible problems. With difficulty starting the car may have a poor support for oil, which is matched with the wrong viscosity. In our harsh winter conditions required to pour oil on the viscosity of 5W, and OW, the system of SAE. Manufacturers of such motor oils ensure fluidity even at -50 degrees. Also desirable manual gearbox, as well as reduktotor pour oil, which has a viscosity of 75-90W to SAE. On vehicles equipped with automatic transmission, the problem with the grease does not arise. Most often there is filled with fluid DEXRON, which was designed and severe frosts. The car, which is over three years, it is desirable to flush the cooling system. Of course, anti-freeze without any problems can last for several years, yet it gradually expanded all sorts of additives and it is unfavorable for engine parts. After a night to look at the surface, which is located under the car near the engine, if you see that there are spots formed by the cooling fluid, which can occur when the temperature of the ambient air - you need to remove any. Even the slightest leak. If the coolant has become muddy or changed its color, its better to completely change. Do not compromise on flooding in the expansion tank is imported liquid. Indeed, domestic "Antifreeze" spoil all the pumps of the cooling system and replacing them - not a cheap pleasure. You also need to check the heating and ventilation. If you have a filter in your vehicle cabin ventilation, then the winter it must be necessarily cleaned or replaced. Cabin filter that is clogged with dust, fluff and insects - is a hotbed of some diseases and odors. On examination the correct operation of all electrical equipment - the first thing to do is very simple - clean the engine and engine compartment. Dirt sufficiently conductive so that a spark could go in another direction and the engine will not start. Dried mud will stop the engine, even in summer, not that winter. For the same reason should be well cleaned or replaced candles. In the summer they will be able to serve again. When buying foreign spark plugs be sure to read the catalog - the model of candles may not be suitable for your car. In general, the candles should be changed after a certain period of time, and each car has its own time slot and not have to look at the fact that the electrodes still quite good. After the run, which ensures the guarantee, the candle may suddenly go wrong and no matter what it brands, domestic or foreign. All high-voltage wires, and no matter what they are brands, about 40 thousand kilometers of spoil. Of course there are special sprays that protect the wires, but they also have some nedotatki. For example they can handle only clean the wire, and secondly their duration is very short. Remember that no car will not start, having dirty ignition coil. You also need to check the "mass" is a wire that goes from the body to the engine.

Tilting the car with his hands

Many motorists, particularly those from older generations, prefer to repair their vehicles themselves. If minor damage can be pretty easy to fix in your own garage, the work associated with repair of the body or chassis, require additional equipment. Take, for example, dump the car. Buying a factory unit did not benefit the ordinary motorist, as it is used quite rarely, but worth a decent amount. At the same time, the need to use it in some papers is required. So how do you get out of this situation? There are many authoring road tripper, which is made by hand. They vary in design but have the same goal - to facilitate working conditions in a serious car repairs, not investing at the same time in the manufacturing of the devices a significant amount. Immediately I must say that looking at some construction, the first thing to pay attention to security that delivers a product with its use. There are quite a simple system, but the use of many pretty traumatic. For example, Tilting, made of wood material. In such designs is difficult to achieve stable stability of the device and given duty. Even if made on such drawings dump confident enough to work now, then after a while, with the aging of the wooden parts, its use can lead to accidents. Should give preference to those devices that are completely exclude spontaneous sinking car. This is achieved by mounting a serious enough tilt to the floor of the garage and the car. It is advisable to be at least three contact points, one of which falls on the opposite side of the lift side. This design dramatically reduces the risk of "backsliding" of the machine under mechanical impact and shearing it from blocking elements. When choosing a system tilt is useful to consider not only the capacity but the number of people that can help you raise the car. If you use a jack or a special lift system, this question is usually not necessary. Another important characteristic is the angle to which the design allows to lift one side of the car. Of course, it is sometimes quite a bit "bully" the machine to perform a certain job, but if you look more far-sighted, then a greater degree of uplift is always preferable. And in conclusion, that the manufacture of tilt to thoroughly work out the technical documentation design and try to follow closely the recommendations of the developer. If there are restrictions on the use of certain materials, it is reasonable to consider them or to apply more sophisticated. Of course, this should not limit your imagination and rationalization idea, but it is easier to improve an existing product than to start from scratch.

First Muscle Car Brief History of Muscle Cars in the World

The Birth of First Muscle Cars
Already about 100 years, technological competition and sales of various types of cars into a business that demanded a lot of people. Market hectic buying and selling a car can not be separated from the history of the emergence of automobile racing. Racing Car also experience innovation, not only in circuit race, but it appears that street racing cars then often known as muscle cars.

Two types of motor sport has a very important role in muscle car history. One is the stock-car racing, which began to emerge as some "good old friends" to form the National Association for
Stock Car Auto Racing in 1947.

Inspired by the runner turbo cars are identical with booze and their ability to avoid the police. The first NASCAR race track dimuali on the beach. These events draw the crowds, and soon became a thriving business. Then came a variety of other organizations, such as the American Automobile Clubs, began encouraging them to invest in car racing.

The emergence of Drag Racing, meanwhile, pulled its own fans. This competition is held in a quarter-mile acceleration comes with street racing informal (and illegal) are associated with hot rodders, shade tree mechanic who turned out the old and the Model T Ford Model A fast, exciting road cars. Drag racing has gained momentum in 1951 when the National Hot Rod Association was formed in - car-crazy Southern California.
At the same time, the head of the Wally Parks NHRA Hot Rod magazines began to promote the sport and performance-tuned street car. The early 50s also saw the debut of Motor Trend and other car-enthusiast magazines, the first of many.

Growing public interest in speed and power gave birth to what many consider the first muscle car, 1949 Oldsmobile Rocket 88. It is a car enthusiast can understand the heat: a powerful new engine in the Olds lighter body. And the machine was successful: the first American high-compression overhead-valve V-8, the results of research at General Motors began well before the war. Although GMs Cadillac Division introduced a similar V-8 for 49 is the smallest, fleeter Olds 88s that captured public attention, especially when they begin to dominate stock car racing.

Because of the success in Detroit never goes unmatched for a long time, the rocket soon have a competitor showroom 88s and horse racing. In 1955, nearly all U.S. plant offers lightweight, efficient V-8. Two legends of the best performance yet for this day.
One is the Chrysler Hemi Corporation, first in 1951 and named for the environment or semi-hemispherical shape of the combustion chamber. No less significant is the 1955 Chevrolet small-block V-8, the project so successful that the basic concepts are still in production techniques. But the horse race is not always about pure speed. Detroit soon learns the importance of hot cars to give their name and marketing direction combined with enthusiasm for tire smoke.

Because bigger is better in 50 Fabulous, wearing a Detroit car pounds and inches every year, requiring larger machines just to maintain the level of acceleration. But many buyers are still willing to buy a speeding, and automakers have responded with all sorts of performance improvements and weight of power sharing option increases. Most were developed only to meet racing rules - and the car company proud. Rarely ordered by the major buyers, these "pieces of speed," but promoted an image of improved sales performance.

So, Dodge, for example, offered powered-up "D-500" engines for all models in its line in 1956, including bottom-line of lightweight two-door sedan - which, of course, is the selection of pilots.Brand performance of other hardware prominently displayed in a limited edition model. Chrysler led the way with the 1955 C-300, fusion inspired Hemi power and pitfalls of luxury cars is quickly becoming the new NASCAR star. With 300 horsepower, it was just announced as "the most powerful car in America."

The 1955 Chrysler C-300 was touted as American Most Powerful Car
300B next year to achieve the ideals of engineering a long-sought power per cubic centimeter of engine displacement. For 1957, Chevrolet leadfoot lured buyers with fuel injection are available, Ford and Studebaker, supercharged. Pontiac offered both fuel injection and "Tri-Power" (three two-barrel carburetors). Even Hudson problematic, limited to the big 6-cylinder and 1954, succeeded in winning the NASCAR "Twin-H Power" dual carbs and varieties, plus hot "7-X" factory race.

All of these muscles screeched to a halt in early 1957. Detroit, through their Automobile Manufacturers Association, agreed to "ban" imposed himself on the ads factory racing and performance-oriented sponsored. Public, the industry was subject to pressure from increasingly vocal lobby security. Private, business as usual.

Engineers continue to work in a hotter engine and other under the table-of-race support, hoping that high performance is politically correct again soon. They were right, because youll see the next page.

This is a remarkable amount for a car with the same quailty build a Plymouth mass-produced. However, the aggressive sound combined with Hemi visual street cred and Barrett-Jackson Cudas advertising now make these more expensive than most Ferraris produced at the same time.

Changes for 1971 were minimal and included a more complex design input 6th grade and bumper grilles gill. Only 100 or more of the seven were built and ultra-rare 1971 are the most expensive convertible muscle cars money can buy. In 72, the government and EPA kicked in the ass muscle car with emissions regulations. After that time, no more Hemi or big block models can be ordered more

Right out the gate, the Camaro can be powered with anything from a six cylinder to a large block of 396, but the buying public took a while to warm up the notion that a pony car can also be fast. Most F-bodies were ordered with a small-block 327 or 350 new, which easily held off Ford 289, and made excellent foundation for street performance. The mid-year introduction of 302-powered Z/28 reached an almost ideal combination of power and weight to the overall performance, and immediately began tearing the SCCA Trans Am circuit.

For die-hard horsepower enthusiasts, word traveled quickly that the Camaro had a terror straight into circulation. Big-block Camaro immediately began driving legends like Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins to victories in Super Stock drag strips across the country, and pilots of the weekend followed their lead. Recognizing an untapped market performance, as Dana Chevrolet dealer, Yenko Nickey and soon created some legends of their own, sliding under 427 engines Rat Camaro hoods before sending them out the door.

The 1967 Camaro Z/28 had no external emblems. (They were introduced in 1968) However, the owners can always add aftermarket emblems of their 1967 cars. The result of this lack of badges meant the only track on the 1967 Camaro Z28 is the dual stripes that go down the hood and deck lid.

GM-developed energy-absorbing steering column and wheel were introduced. In 1967, Elliot M. "Pete" Such was the general manager of Chevrolet Motor Division. It was a good year for the Camaro as production of 220,906 cars were made in the model year. Which represented 2.9% of total U.S. industry. The total included 58.761 6-cylinder (I-6) cars and 162,145 V8 engine-powered Camaro. According to sources Camaro Brand Manager Scott Settlemire, these 1,200 cars were actually units produced at the Norwood factory and shipped to a location near Bloomfield (possibly Little Ferry) where they were "knocked down" for shipment overseas. This means that the total number of cars built in Norwood was actually 155,898. Camaro sales for the year 1967, reached 205,816 (2.7% of the industry) in 1967 compared with 46,758 (0.6%) in the fall of 1966, shortly after he was first introduced.

He did 0-30 mph in 3.7 Mon, 00 to 60 mph in 9.1 Mon and the quarter mile in 16.9 seconds. at 87 mph. The May 1967 edition of "Motor Trend" magazine road tested a Camaro Z28 coupe with the 302-cid 290-hp V8 engine and four-speed manual transmission. He made 00 to 60 mph in 7.0 Mon and the quarter mile in 14.8 seconds. to 96 mph. The magazine noted that this engine was "rumored to bring more than 400 hp faithful to the starting line." He also pointed out that the Z28 ran a slower tempo than a 0-60 mph (Super Sport) 396-cid Camaro SS, but increasingly fast quarter mile.

The 1967 Camaro convertible RS/SS-396 was selected to pace the Indianapolis 500 Mile race. A total of 104 similar convertibles were built for use "official" in the great race. Camaro front sub-frame was large enough to keep the engines big block Chevy V8 as the 396-cid V8 Turbo-.Jet. This meant that the 427-cid V8 engines could also be accommodated and a small number of 1967 Camaros were converted to 427 power by Yenko Chevrolet of Cannonsburg, Pa., Mickey Chevrolet Chicago, Bill Thomas of Anaheim, California (who worked in Mickey connection with Chevrolet), and Baldwin Motion Performance, New York.
