How to Install a Starter in a BMW E34
1. Park the car in a flat, well lit area. Disconnect the negative batter cable from the battery. Lift the front of the vehicle with a floor jack and lower it onto jack stand. Alternatively, you can pull the front of the car up onto ramps to access the starter, since the wheels do not need to be removed for this job.
2. Locate the reinforcing bar that bolts to the chassis between the engine and the gearbox, just behind the engine’s oil pan. Remove the two bolts that hold the bar to the car on either end with a socket and a ratchet. Set the bar aside.
3. Remove the bolts that hold the metal cover on that protects the fuel line where they run through this area of the car. Remove the cover. Pull the fuel lines off of the bracket that holds them in place. Pull the line off for the reverse light switch from the bracket. These are simply unclipped by hand.
4. Remove the bolt that holds the wires that go to the starter onto the starter. Pull the wires off of the starter. Remove the bolt from the reinforcing bracket that supports the weight of the starter. Remove the upper and lower bolts that hold the starter to the gearbox with a socket. Pull the starter away from the gearbox.
5. Install the new starter in the reverse of removal, ensuring that the teeth on the starter engage with the teeth on the flywheel. Install the upper and lower bolts. Reinstall the bolt that fastens the reinforcing bracket to the starter. Reinstall the wires on the starter connections in the proper orientation.
6. Press the fuel lines back onto their bracket. Press the reverse light switch line back onto the bracket. Reinstall the protective plate for the fuel lines. Reinstall the reinforcing bar between the engine and gearbox. Reconnect the battery and lower the vehicle back to the ground.

How to Install a Car Windshield
1. Remove the screws holding the rearview mirror onto the windshield. The retaining block and mirror should slide out easily. Lift up and remove the windshield wipers.
2. Inspect the gasket that surrounds the windshield. It should be replaced if it is cracked or brittle. If you are replacing the gasket, you can simply cut out the windshield. Insert your knife in the middle of the rubber gasket, but do not scrape against the glass. Slice the rubber all the way around and push the windshield out from inside the car.
3. If you will be keeping the existing gasket, use a wooden stick to break the seal. Run the stick around the gasket where it hits the cars frame. Push gently on the windshield from inside the car with your foot. Use the stick to push under the inside lip at the top of the windshield opening. Have a friend sit on top of the car to catch the windshield when it pops out of the seal.
4. Apply a small amount of sealant on the bottom half of the rubber gasket and place it around the new windshield. The slotted side should be facing the outside with the heavier side on the inside.
5. Coat the outer groove of the windshield opening with petroleum jelly to make it easier to push in the windshield. Set the new windshield into the opening and push around the perimeter until it is securely seated. Use a rubber hammer to gently tap the windshield into place if necessary. Wipe off any excess petroleum jelly and sealant from the cars frame and replace the windshield wipers and rearview mirror.

How to Install BMW Engine Guards
1. Position the left engine guard in place to determine what existing bolts need to be removed. Once they are determined, remove them.
2. Place engine guard back in location and replace the bolts.
3. Mount any additional hardware that may came with your specific models crashbars. Once the guard is mounted, tighten all bolts securely. Repeat process on the right side. Once complete, you will have successfully mounted engine crashbars on your BMW and will no longer damage the engine during a minor fall.
